Christmas Version






If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows,
strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls,
but do not show love to my family,
I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen,
baking dozens of Christmas cookies,
preparing gourmet meals,
and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime,
but do not show love to my family
I'm just another cook.

If I can work at a soup kitchen,
carol in the nursing home,
and give all that I have to charity,
but do not show love to my family,
it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels
and crocheted snowflakes,
attend a myriad of holiday parties
and sing in the choir's cantata,
but do not focus on Christ,
I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the spouse.
Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love does not envy another's home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.
Love does not yell at the kids to get out of the way,
but is thankful that they are there to be in the way.
Love does not give only to those who are able to give in return,
but rejoices in giving to those who cannot.

Love bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things
and endures all things.
Love never fails.

Video games will break,
pearl necklaces will be lost,
golf clubs will rust,
but giving the gift of love will endure forever.

Are You on the Right Path?

We are entering that holy time of year. In every culture around the globe ... a time of giving, of introspection, of getting in touch with Spirit. A time of love.

At this time of year, as the year ends, you may be wondering if you are on your spiritual path.

In her article about the 10th house (how others see us, our reputation, persona, and also how well we do financially and materially), Dana Gerhardt writes beautifully about the Spiritual Path. She says:

[I]t's nice to have an impressive 10th house calling card. Walk through any graveyard, however, and the 10th house quickly loses its importance. You won't see "wealthy banker," "top insurance salesman," or "the sexiest guy on the block" etched onto any headstone. All the worldly success people struggle for and achieve dissolves at the cemetery into more personal descriptions: "beloved husband," "loving mother," "devoted sister." These terms belong to the house opposite the 10th, the 4th, which rules not only family, but endings. In deathbed scenes, people rarely express regret or gather comfort from their life's career choices. They don't wish for a little extra time to finish up that memo or earn another few thousand dollars. Rather, they wonder if they loved well enough, if they used their time to touch life deeply enough, if they traveled far enough on the spiritual path. Rarely do the dying obsess about 10th house things.

Your Spiritual Life Purpose and the Pluto Transit

Lindsay Lohan doused with flour? Rough week for celebs, says yahoo. Well it's probably been a rough week for YOU too. EXHAUSTION seems to be the rule ... you're either sick or you've hurt yourself, with this energy. We need a break. And maybe you're thinking a little flour on your coat would be mild compared to what's been thrown at you?

PLUTO and URANUS/SATURN continue to wreak havoc in our lives. OH THE DRAMA.

But Pluto deals with magic ... real magic ... like a cardinal in the midst of winter ... the intricate beauty of a snowflake ... like a tiny seed that grows into a mighty oak tree ... like transforming you into the person you always wanted to be ... like looking into the eyes of your true love ... like getting what you always wanted finally ...

It's a good time to find out why you are here, what you're supposed to be doing. WHAT YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE PURPOSE IS.

Yes, you're probably getting slammed around right now. It's part of it. Saturn wants to control, but Uranus pulls out into left field.

You clamp down and there's revolt. You loosen up and someone else plays the heavy.
You thought you'd made up your mind (Saturn) but no one and nothing is cooperating with you (Uranus).

You decided to move and they beg you to stay. You say and they 'agree' you're better off going. Huh????

Let's just say the cat's out of the bag and you aren't going to be stuffing it back in.

How to handle all this drama? Be in a 'preference' state, not a 'demand' state. You don't want to rouse someone else to play the role of Saturn or Uranus or to play those roles in someone else's drama. Watch out for turning it inward and getting sick - or outward, and getting hurt. Move slowly and with care.

Mars Retrograde and your life purpose

Mars Retrograde will begin on November 15. Be looking for a great relationship lesson on November 16th. Good time to get a reading prior to that so you'll know what to look for. This will also be an excellent time period to be working on your purpose in life. The intensity in the air will feel like it's pulling you in different directions. When you know why you're here, you know your path and can keep your feet on it.

Spiritual Life Purpose

One the questions I get asked a lot is WHY. "Why does this keep happening to me?"

As in -- why do they always gossip about me at work, or how come if there's an abusive man around he will find me, or how come I'm always confused about what to do, or why do I always step in the same messes?

Well, let's say that Spirit keeps that part of you on the griddle that still needs cooking. You will continually be sent the same lesson, over and over again, so that you can master it. Once you master it, it won't happen to you any more.

The Mars Retrograde - How to make Use of It

November and Mars Retrograde

Mars, the god of War, is on the scene for the coming month. In preparation, I read Clausewitz on War, and A History of Warfare, by John Keegan. I also brushed up on my emotional intelligence.

Why? Because war has been around a long time - anger, violence, arguments, conflict - but like any energy, the energy of Mars can also be used well. It's self-protective (we fight to protect ourselves or our loved ones, or our possessions), but if you let this energy get out of hand, or misinterpret or over-react to threats, you miss all the better ways to manifest your warrior spirit.

Mars turns retrograde on November 16. During this time period when Mars is closest to the earth (astronomically), we will get many lessons for our growth.

We will also have the holidays and the political scene, as well as our own relationships and work situations to explore this with. How you experience this transit will depend on how prepared you are. It promises to be a time of surprises, intense extremes. A reading can help you get perspective.

Expect turbulence similar to a Mercury Retrograde, so do your holiday preparations if you can now - travel plans, gift-buying and sending. Get it done before this Mars retrograde. I'll be available all through the holidays for consultations. The Mars energy can make us more prone to temper tantrums, outbursts, violence, and even cruelty. But it can also bring fighting spirit for good things, bravery and even heroic acts . Mars energy needs to be understood and modulated.

Beware of:

• Inflammations and self-injuries
• Addictions rearing their ugly heads
• All the negative emotions - anger, guilt, worry and fear, and extremes
• Fights
• Over-reactions - including rescuing and over-helping
• Increased stress from hiding Mars energy we don't know how to deal with
• Intense startups that exhaust us and then peter our (one-week exercise program, the 2-day "diet")
• Fanaticism and proselytizing
• Stress, stress, stress - chemicals that exhaust and stress you and related health problems, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually

Remember that unless you trap them, or inflame them, emotions come and go. (Comes from the same word as "move".)

Don't focus on the Mars downside, keep centered, focus on the good, and "just say no" to the emotional rollercoaster. Get a reading to help you focus better on the things that will ease this Retrograde and the good outcomes you want. In other words, focus on not what you want to avoid, but what you want to have happen.

A reading can increase your personal power.

Mars Retrograde in Cancer is a good time to learn more about your emotions. As Terry Lamb says, "Through Cancer we encounter the challenge to keep ourselves emotionally fit, to learn emotional intelligence. When Mars is in retrograde in Cancer, that lesson will come out in spades!"

TIPS FOR COPING:

• Look at what's right (with you, them and the situation), and keep your face turned toward the Sun
• Problem-solve immediately, don't resent, don't fester
• MODERATION. Allow extra time for peace and relaxation - readings, meditate, exercise, get enough sleep, eat right.
• Turn it off - turn off the TV if it upsets you. Get away from negative people. Monitor the "holidays" so you enjoy them.
• Learn more about emotional intelligence. This is the perfect opportunity.
